embers 04:17
As it dropped from above them, they heard an uncanny hissing which developed into a whistle as the mass got nearer and nearer. If it wasn't for the treetops, they would have been crushed in an instant. And the debris that fell around them came in phosphorescent waves. When they woke an hour later, the ground was completely covered in heaps of yellow powder and their skin felt sticky and hardened. Up in the treetops, the mass was still gently smouldering, as lightly singed leaves spiralled sleepily from the branch. When they got back to town, they tried to forget what had happened and decided, on reflection, it would be best if they kept it a secret. But the smell of the burning stayed in their hair and their jackets to remind them of the embers,

on the turn 04:27
a large, irregular ball of ice melting slowly under the sun. It must be 4ft high and 4ft widewith a man and a woman sat on the top waiting for someone to take their photo. Their clothes absorb the cold, grey slush. Their vivid red coats burst colour at the beams. On the turn A small block that fits in your hand, you can feel the center's unstable. The corners are frayed and slightly discoloured, it's soft with a moveable skin. The things around it, also looking worn, spurt splinters of themselves on the concrete floor, itself chipped, pitted and cracked as if in sympathy with the block On the turn

The pace was practically glacial, but hopes were forming quick, great swathes of plankton all forgetting where they live. No-one to tell them to go back to the water, the water running thick. Is that him? Yes he's here. He looks comfortable sitting that chair. There's no armrests and only two and a half legs. But he's still comfortable. Small movements under the surface. You're eating dried apricots and brazil nuts off a small plate. And you smell like swimming pools. And we're waiting together for something. We are waiting for something.

mounds 06:37
How will these mounds, wrapped in synthetic green nets, muscular and dimpled, sloppy and tumbledown, become buildings? It seems feasible that, bit by bit, the sand will become concrete, but some will remain just mounds. Sad and inert, compacting slowly towards the ground, just mounds.

The fog outside the window thickened, turning the crisp skies ivory, the people sleeping in their beds, oblivious to the change. Then they slowly woke with crusted eyes, pushed back the curtains to look outside, but all that could be seen was ancient white obscuring all the lines. Foggy patches The church bells still rang out their chimes and the lonely sound shook the air. The cars no longer braved the roads, and people stayed indoors. As Christmas neared the strings of lights, looked like furry spots of watered ink and the shoppers fumbled in the mist like wooly hatted moles. Foggy patches On Christmas day it snowed of course and the children tried to do their best, throwing aimlessly their icy spheres into the never-ending white. On boxing day, quick as it had come, the horizon was clear and the fog had gone, leaving sugared loaves of hills and trees heading off for miles. Foggy patches

We need an informative pamphlet, not an overflowing journal, we've no time to invest in a tome like this. It's already tuesday and we've wasted half the day, can you provide us with a carefully edited paragraph? Or even better, forget words altogether and use natural gesture to show us what you mean. Using natural gesture only, show us what you mean Using natural gesture only, show us what you mean Using 5 or fewer movements from which we can glean the things you'd like to communicate, the things which you have seen. Well, it was a valiant effort and it was fine, but we're still not clear on all the points you made. You see, the soundings are in fathoms, the bearings to the views are magnetic, the readings you gave don't correlate with the time, the date or place. So again we ask, use natural gesture, but make it a little bit quicker this time. The hours have ebbed away and it's such a daunting thought, the columns of undulating smoke. Using natural gesture only, show us what you mean, using natural gesture only, show us what you mean, using 5 or fewer movements from which we can glean the things you want to communicate, the things that you have seen

swarf 07:45
It's clear from what's been left behind, they were working in this hall. There's piles of metal shavings swept up against the wall. And judging by the dust upon the piles, we can tell they've been gone for quite a while. They took away the furniture and left behind the swarf.
